Founded over 40 years ago, Leonard Joel’s Fine Jewels & Timepieces department leads the market in Australia with six annual, curated auctions in Melbourne and Sydney.

Leonard Joel boasts the largest and longest running auction jewellery marketplace in Australia. These auctions feature diamonds, coloured stones and pearls as well as antique, modern and contemporary jewellery and rare timepieces.

Our highly experienced team of specialists, who are all certified gemmological and diamond technicians, value and offer over 15,000 pieces at auction every year, providing an unrivalled auction experience for sellers and buyers of jewellery and watches in Australia.

In 2021, Leonard Joel sold a magnificent 20.05 carat diamond ring for $1,625,000 IBP, making it the most expensive diamond ever sold at auction in Australia.

Leonard Joel held a 71% jewellery market share in FY22–23 and strengthened this to 75% in FY24–25, (based on published results from major Australian auction houses for those periods).

Lauren brings over 18 years’ experience in luxury jewellery and timepieces across Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. Lauren holds a Bachelor of Science from Victoria University of Wellington and a Graduate Gemologist Diploma from the GIA in London. She has held senior roles with Chaumet, Webb’s, Tiffany & Co., and Harrods, and has completed specialist training with Patek Philippe.

Patricia Kontos

Senior Jewels & Timepieces Specialist

Patricia Kontos joined Leonard Joel in 2021 and has substantial auction industry experience in Australia and overseas serving as Deputy Director at Sotheby’s and Senior Specialist at Christie’s. Patricia was instrumental in establishing the success of the jewellery and watch department for Sotheby’s in Australia. She has presided over a number of important sales and counts as her consignment highlight a rare Rolex “Pulsometer’ Daytona ref 6239 which sold at Sotheby’s Geneva for in excess of AUD $1 million.

Patricia holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Melbourne, is a fellow of the Gemmological Association of Australia, and has a passion for watches.

John D’Agata

Senior Jewellery Consultant

John began his career in jewellery with the renowned Melbourne jewellers ‘Kozminsky’. In the early 2000’s John took his talents to Leonard Joel, where for over a decade excelled in his role as Head of Jewellery, introducing the Luxury goods department and launched and established Leonard Joel Sydney. It was during this period John formalised his qualifications and remains a member of the Gemological Association of Australia. In 2022 he launched his own boutique luxury lifestyle business, ‘The House of Marcelle & Mr. John’ in Trentham Victoria. Having been associated with Leonard Joel for almost two decades, John remains client focussed, whilst sharing his extensive experience, skills, and wisdom with the Leonard Joel jewellery team.

Submissions may include diamonds, coloured gemstones, antique jewellery, modern jewellery, signed designer pieces, pearls, gold jewellery, and watches. 

No, we do not sell lab grown diamonds in our auctions.

It is helpful to provide clear photographs, including of any hallmarks or signatures, close-up images of stones, and any certificates, receipts, or supporting documents that might be available.

Once submitted, the Fine Jewels & Timepieces team will review the information and contact you regarding the item’s suitability for auction, and provide a price estimate along with the next steps to present your piece at auction.

An auction appraisal is used to assess whether an item may be suitable for sale and to provide guidance on auction potential. A formal valuation for insurance, probate, or other legal purposes is a separate service.
