Hidden away in an impossibly narrow Cremorne street off Chapel Street resides a little parcel of Japanese design and art that for more than two decades has been providing lovers of the Japanese aesthetic furnishings, objects and fabrics and advice about collecting. Add to this an open plan restoration area populated by Japanese worksmiths happy to discuss the finer points of Japanese furniture and you start to get a sense of how interesting a visit to the Kazari Warehouse is.
Leonard Joel were delighted to be appointed auctioneer to assist with the dispersal of more than 500 items from this part of the Kazari collection as were collectors from all over the country that were buying Japanese screens, handsome Edo period cabinetry that Kazari has become so famous for sourcing and items of beauty and utility. The highest price realised was for lot 254, a Japanese Staircase Chest, that sold for $3,840IBP and one of the more unusual items was lot 250 (illustrated), Japanese Kitchen cabinet, that sold for $2,400IBP. The sale realised well in excess of $200,000 and provided passionate collectors of all things Japanese a wonderful afternoon of “auction shopping”.
