With the announcement of reduced Covid-19 restrictions in Victoria for Auction houses from 1 June moving to 20 people and from 21 June moving to 50 people, while still respecting social distancing rules, we have reviewed our structure for appointments and for auctions.
BROWSE & BID AT LEONARD JOEL
As of 1 June, we can now safely accommodate 20 people within the building, increasing to 50 people from 21 June, subject to proper social distancing. Viewings no longer require appointment booking, but are limited to 20 minutes. The Victorian Government, as part of Covid-19 contact tracing protocols, requires each client’s details to be collected and kept for 28 days, after which they will be destroyed. Each room has a maximum capacity of people; please refer to signage for directions regarding this capacity.
Our first in-room auction will be held on 22 June with the Decorative Arts auction being the first to be able to welcome clients back into an old-fashioned auction room. Social-distancing requirements are ongoing and will always dictate room attendance.
For those who prefer to continue to connect with us virtually, we are still accommodating virtual viewings and valuations with our specialists and are happy to provide additional imagery and information on any lot over email.
While we are currently unable to provide you an in-room auction experience, we do offer many alternative ways to browse and bid at Leonard Joel. From phone and absentee bidding to participating online from anywhere in the world, we have an option to suit your needs, so please don’t hesitate to contact our Melbourne or Sydney team with any questions or requests.

If you can’t make it to a viewing in person or you prefer to view virtually, our team will be happy to show you around our viewings over FaceTime or Google Hangouts, please get in touch with the relevant specialist to arrange an appointment.
We strongly recommend that payments at this time be made via our online payment system or via direct deposit to our account. We will accept cash and cheque payments in person, however please be aware there may be a wait time, as these transactions will have to occur one at a time, with a member of our team, and respect all social distancing requirements.
COLLECTIONS, SHIPPING & DELIVERIES
Collections & Deliveries
Until we move to in-room auctions, we will continue with the Carpark Concierge service, however clients will be no longer be required to make a collection appointment. For collections, please email through proof of payment to firstname.lastname@example.org, or take a screenshot to show us on arrival. Please also have a digital, or printed copy of your invoice ready.
Please view our list of recommended carriers here, who will be able to assist you with shipping. Please forward your invoice to your preferred carrier, after you have made payment. For smaller items, we may be able to arrange shipping to you directly, please get in touch to request a delivery.

If you decide to offer your item or collection at auction with Leonard Joel, a specialist will advise the most suitable auction for your property together with an appropriate estimate (selling range) and reserve (minimum selling price). Then, we will email you a Consignment Agreement. This is a contract that outlines our terms, fees and conditions of business. We can also help facilitate the delivery of your property to Leonard Joel, covered by our insurance.
Upon receipt of your item, it will be photographed and catalogued by our team.
Before the auction, we will agree a reserve price with you. Your item will not be sold for less than this price at auction.
After the successful auction of your item, you will receive prompt payment into your nominated bank account, after Leonard Joel commission and fees.
